Be Kind Now

Colossians 3:12 English Standard Version (ESV)

12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
Sometimes I need a sign.

My God Who Pursues Me

Psalm 61:2 English Standard Version (ESV)

2 from the end of the earth I call to you
    when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I,

Psalm 18:2 English Standard Version (ESV)

2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

In my pursuit of God I don't always consider that my God pursues me.  No matter the circumstances, He is there, my rock and my deliverer, and sometimes my teacher.  Today I judged harshly in my mind, while reaching for my purse, a man holding a sign saying he was in need.  I was even relieved that my hands didn't find any cash. At the store this evening, I pulled out my debit card to pay for my groceries, but couldn't get it to work in their card reader.  I pulled out another card, protesting that the first one should have worked, and the machine rejected it also.  The young woman in line behind me, that I hadn't yet noticed, offered to the cashier the cash to pay for my purchase.  I protested more than a little embarrassed at being the recipient of her charity.  She said, "Don't rob me of my blessing," so I gave up and thanked her.  God pursued me right to the store, when he had something for me to learn.  My lack of generosity was showing, because there really was no other reason for those cards not to have worked, and He wanted me to know.

Solid Rock (Acoustic) - Unspoken
The Lyrics:
Let me fail a thousand times if that is what I need
Let me lose these dreams of mine if I need to taste defeat
You walk me through the fire until I see the heart of your desire
You came to me

And through these dark and raging seas
Your grace has not abandoned me
And for these storms I thank my God
For they drove me to the solid rock

From the shipwreck of my life, you build a truer heart
In my brokenness you shine, my loss is where you start
To form in me your will until my love is a reflection of
Your love for me

And through these dark and raging seas
Your grace has not abandoned me
And for these storms I thank my God
For they drove me to the solid rock

You pursue those you love
And so we have no need to fear
For these storms will draw us near
To you

And through these dark and raging seas
Your grace has not abandoned me
And for these storms I thank my God
For they drove me to the solid rock

And through these dark and raging seas
Your grace has not abandoned me
And for these storms I thank my God
For they drove me to the solid rock
And for they drove me to the solid rock
Yes you drove me to the solid rock.

A Good Word

Playing His Song

Psalm 33:1-4 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Steadfast Love of the Lord
33 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
4 For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.

Many years ago my husband and I dropped in on a woman in the congregation doing what is known in church speak as visitation.  She was gracious and welcoming, pleased to see us; but I found myself uncomfortable, because she was different than anyone I knew and simple in thought and action.   While there, she entertained us with her autoharp and song.  I liked her music but didn't know why and wasn't sure I should like it.   (Why I thought I was a paragon of sophistication, I don't know.)  What I do know now that it was Appalachian music or what we now like to call roots or Americana music.  I wish for a visitation do over, where I could tell her how good she was and how she touched my soul; and she did or I wouldn't yet remember her.  I hope she went on to live a beautiful life with her Savior, playing her harp, with His melody in her heart.  Iris Dement's singing reminds me of her.

HIs Name - Urban Rescue

Always Has and Always Will Be Jesus

Acts 4:12 New English Translation (NET Bible)

12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”
“The world's theology

The world's theology is easy to define.
It is the view . . .
that human beings are basically good,
that no one is really lost,
that belief in Jesus Christ is not necessary for salvation.

"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools."
Romans 1:22”

― James Montgomery Boice

We watched the video of James Montgomery Boice today in our morning service.    He was the pastor of my college years in Philadelphia.   This brought to mind another great to me Bible scholar of those years, my grandmother, who taught and wrote Bible studies on Christ in the first books of the Old Testament.   Before the sermon ended we were challenged to read a chapter a day from the book of John.   The whole Bible has always been about Jesus.  Our whole lives always have been and always will be about Jesus, even for those who don't call him Savior, because they will live their days denying him.  He is true.  He is good.  He is mighty to save.
Here's todays reading.

John 1:1-14 New English Translation (NET Bible)

The Prologue to the Gospel
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God. 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created by him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. 5 And the light shines on in the darkness, but the darkness has not mastered it.

6 A man came, sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that everyone might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. 9 The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was created by him, but the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who have received him—those who believe in his name—he has given the right to become God’s children 13 —children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.

14 Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory—the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

Ask, Just Ask...

...in his name, so that you may receive joy.

1 Peter 1:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

What A Love!

Psalm 8:3-4 New International Version (NIV)
3 When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[a]

John 3:16New International Version (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

What a song!  What a God!  It's the Father's song of rejoicing and He's rejoicing over me, over you.

Song of My Father - Urban Rescue

It's Sunday!

Psalm 149:3 New English Translation (NET Bible)

3 Let them praise his name with dancing!
Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp!

Give Him praise!

On Being Content

1 Timothy 6:6-8 English Standard Version (ESV)

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and[a] we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

Philippians 4:11 English Standard Version (ESV)

11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

Philippians 4:19 English Standard Version (ESV)

19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

The little dog who lives in our house, our granddog really, just startled me with a leap onto our slider door.  I didn't even know he was outside.  He likes to go out one door then come in another.  He probably thinks he's clever.  This Peanuts cartoon is for all the dog lovers in my family.  We have dogs; be happy.
