Then Jehoahaz prayed for the Lord’s help, and the Lord heard his prayer, for he could see how severely the king of Aram was oppressing Israel. 5 So the Lord provided someone to rescue the Israelites from the tyranny of the Arameans. To me, there are two remarkable actions here.
First, the king of Israel does the right thing. He prays. The kings of Israel all received an F from the chroniclers in the Old Testament. Not one was considered righteous. Perhaps this is why this event is recorded. It may have been rare.
The second event, not as rare, is that God heard him and sent help.
We may think the frequency is reversed in real life. We may think people pray a lot, but God doesn't offer corresponding answers very often. But it may be more likely the reverse is true. In our secular mindset we go to other resources first, then God if all else fails. Thankfully, He doesn't penalize us for our tardiness, and answers in His wise way.
