He's Still Working

Philippians 1:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Tomorrow starts my first official day of full-time employment, or at least the first day in a very long time.  As a survivor of the Great Recession, I wondered if I'd ever see it again.  As a rheumatoid arthritis survivor, I wondered if I'd even be hirable.  As an aging Baby Boomer, I've had my doubts and fears.  But God knew, and I am grateful.  It's true that He isn't finished with me yet.

Work in Progress

I may struggle with this truth at times, but I am not a half-made child of a half-baked god.  I may be in progress but my almighty God, the architect of all creation, will complete me.  He will not abandon His purpose and plan for my life, which will one glorious day be fully realized.  Now if I could just stop meddling in the work He is doing that would be good.  There's no sense in making His job any harder than it already is.

Still In the Fight

Proverbs 20:29English Standard Version (ESV)
29 The glory of young men is their strength,
but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.

Philippians 1:6New International Version (NIV)
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Tonight I am thankful for strong, young men and their ability to muscle a transmission out of a car, but I'm also thankful for my older, graying man, who was wise enough to hold the flashlight and dispense advice.  The young may glory in their strength but they don't have my old man's splendor.  I'll claim this verse for myself too.  I have gray hair, albeit colored, but it's all still there and it's mine.  I may not do more than shine a light, but I'll stay in the fight until God calls me home.  I'll look just splendid too.
