Henry Ossawa Tanner, (American, 1859-1937) | Behold! The Lamb of God, 1891. Isaiah 53:7 New International Version (NIV) 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
John 1:29
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, [a]James the son of Zebedee, and [b]John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
I'm trying to learn from the disciples who left everything, their nets, their boats, their family and followed Jesus. I'm likely to first make reservations, cancel subscriptions, fill prescriptions, overpack, and say tearful goodbyes before I'd leave in obedience to the Master's call. It's not so complicated as all that. It's obedience in the present things and committed obedience to the future. It takes trust, which is always difficult for me, difficult but not impossible. I tend to worry myself into catastrophic thinking and overpack my mind with anxious thoughts. Following Jesus isn't an easy life but it is a good one, good in that it is both terrible and beautiful. Still, I will follow Him to infinity eternity and beyond.
