Boast In the Cross

Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. Theodore Roosevelt

Galatians 2:20 New International Version (NIV)
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 6:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

There's been a whole lot of boasting and a whole lot of complaining this election year.  It makes me wonder how this country is producing leaders who belong more on a reality television show than on a national monument.  We have what we have by the grace of God, and forgetting that truth may leave us bereft of that grace.  We need to turn to the source of greatness and stop making idols  of men with feet of clay.   Bring me a leader who boasts in the cross and I'll happily, gratefully follow.

Isaiah 40:22-24 New International Version (NIV)
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
23 He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
24 No sooner are they planted,
    no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.
