My God Who Defends

 Isaiah 1:17
New International Version (NIV)
17 Learn to do right; seek justice.
    Defend the oppressed.[a]
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
    plead the case of the widow.

Psalm 68:5
New International Version (NIV)
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
    is God in his holy dwelling.

2 Timothy 3:12
New King James Version (NKJV)
12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Proverbs 18:10
New International Version (NIV)
10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
    the righteous run to it and are safe.

I have divided thoughts about our country intervening in Syria's civil war.  The use of chemical weapons is abhorrent.  If it is within our power to stop evil, we should act.  Still, I think we should also be looking to put our own house in order concerning the sanctity of life.  Since legalization of abortion in 1973 there have been approximately 50 million lives taken because we've granted our citizens the right to choose.  Then there's the state I live in that has legalized assisted suicide and because the majority considered it a compassionate choice.  I consider it all wrong, very, very wrong.
However this turns out, it will be sure that Christians in Syria will know and depend upon God as their sole defense.  Since the Arab Spring they have been and will continue to be persecuted.  They will suffer and have the opportunity to have their faith perfected through suffering.  We need to pray for the believers there, that in all of this they will continue to call upon the Lord.  Our God is a strong tower and precious are those who run to Him in times of trouble.
May His will be done and His name glorified.
